Damn: Rocker Rues State of Radio
Mays disputed allegations that his company will not air songs from artists unless they tour with Clear Channel's concert promotion business. Mays said it would make no business sense to do that because concert promotion accounted for only 7 percent of Clear Channel's business.
"Seven percent of your income is how much?" McCain asked. "Five million? Ten million? Fifty million?"
"Maybe $100 million," Mays replied.
I really don't know what to say about that. It's certainly obvious that radio stations aren't quite the paupers they make themselves out to be though.

Ugly: Retiring old Microsoft OSes
This is like a look into my own future. We still run NT4 on all of our servers because: a) it's faster than Win2k with IIS and SQL Server, and b) if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That may have to change soon as our servers start to "age out" and need replacement.
Oy.

Strange: Combimouse
This might actually work for true touch typists. I developed my own typing technique as an adolescent which unfortunately precludes the use of split keyboards. All the more reason kids should get introduced to keyboarding at a very early age.

Uhm, no: Is spam good for politics?
Adam Kovacevich, a Lieberman campaign spokesman, said: "It is absolutely clear who sent this e-mail, and we specifically provided recipients with an unsubscribe option. This is not spam."
I beg to differ.. spam is unsolicited e-mail. Period. No further qualifications are necessary. It's not that I would vote for such a spine-less candidate in the first place, but if I had been planning to this certainly would have yanked me back to my senses.

Dumb: US startup plans new console launch
Who would buy a console and pay-per-play for games already available on a standard PC? Anyone who thinks the US market needs another console or another pay-per-play game system is smoking better crack than Whitney. In my opinion, subscription based gaming is only truly useful on cell phones and MMORPG's.

Hmm: Why I should have the right to kill a malicious process on your machine
This seems logical and perhaps even practical until you think about what a Pandora's box such technology would represent. If Mr. Mullen's software is allowed access to my servers to kill rogue processes then any other sufficiently clever programmer could exploit this permission to kill any other process. Imagine if WalMart could tap into Target's servers and shut down vital processes... it could spark a whole new level of corporate warfare.
Then again, maybe I read too much Gibson.

Thppt: Network Solutions
Everything old is new again. I wondered how long it would take for them to decide to distance the registrar business from the somewhat tainted VeriSign name. I doubt seriously this will staunch the defection of customers to other registrars though. They just can't keep beating the "quality over price" drum anymore than Microsoft can.

Hmm: Nintendo switches on brighter Game Boy
Is it just me or does the new design look terribly uncomfortable? Given Nintendo's past legal troubles regarding RSI I'm surprised they don't require a signed release before selling the new unit. One of the main draws to the Game Boy has always been the comfort factor for the long-term gamer, the SP seems more like playing games on a cellphone.
