Ugh:
Troops Without Armor in Iraq

Looks like we brought a knife to a gun fight. And for what? To appear more "friendly" to the civilians who are blowing us up.

New Device Allows Recording at Concerts

Now here's someone who is thinking. I wonder what the RIAA will have to say about this.

Update: Wired says the device is legal

Whoa:
DeLorean Time Machine Recreation

Somebody has a *lot* of time on their hands. Look at the interior shots particularly. Amazing details.

Interesting:
ANALOGIA Star Estimator

Here's mine. I never really considered it before, but I suppose I do resemble Val Kilmer a bit in that particular photo. It's interesting to note how it matched the slightly open mouth position.

It's a shame that it only works in IE and Netscape 4.x though.

Hmm:
Windows Update groans under patch load

One wonders if Microsoft considered this possibility when they decided to go to monthly security bulletins. Surely someone in one of their datacenters would have thought the process through to its logical conclusion. Even so, I doubt the real world application of their often asinine edicts matters much to the folks in the ivory towers.

Hmm:
Public Support for War Steady, But Bush Job Ratings Slip

There are certainly some interesting numbers here. One of the biggest things that caught my eye was that 58% of those polled say that they are following news about gas prices "very closely". Considering that I've heard more than one pundit on the cable news channels say that people don't base their vote on gas prices, it's good to see I'm not the only one concerned. Perhaps the pundits could do some light research before declaring their opinion as fact. Perhaps monkeys might fly out my butt.

The Penny Arcade Remix Project

Gabe says:

"What do you get when an English teacher in Japan prints out a bunch of PA strips with blank word bubbles and asks his students to fill them in? Well you get this and it's really fucking funny."

I say, whatever you do don't miss this one. It takes "Bear Who Drives Car" to a whole new level.

Sweet:
IF Quake

What sets this apart from most of the other Zork knock-off's is that the author really nails Infocom's writing style and blends it well with the Quake universe. You'll need a Z-interpreter to play IF Quake. My favorite is WinFrotz. YMMV.
